DIRECTOR’s MESSAGE

Prof. Je-Yeol Cho

Director of Comparative Medicine Disease Research Center

The Center for Comparative Medicine Disease Research Center (CDRC) at Seoul National University College of Veterinary Medicine was established in June 2021 by support of a seven-year Science Research Center (SRC) grant from Korean government Ministry of Science and ICT. It consists of a total 9 professors including the Center head professor Je-Yoel Cho, DVM, PhD. The Center is conducting researches from basic to translational medicine with the goal of identifying factors and mechanisms that cause common disease. between human and companion animals through comparative medicine approach. Researches are focused on the diseases of companion animals especially dogs that share the living environment with humans. The center is focusing on the researches of canine mammary gland tumor and human breast cancers, one of the most commonly occurring cancers in both species. Consequently, the Center is conducting epigenetic mammary gland cancer research using multiple omics analysis, 3D organoid culture technique, genetic aging-related research, and comparative multi-omics as core technologies. The ultimate goal is to understand the disease as one health system of human-animal-environment, the role of companion animals as sentinels, and the realization of health welfare in which humans, animals, and the environment harmonize in an aging society.
